Pet Vaccinations in Sunnyvale / Santa Clara Area
Sunnyvale / Santa Clara Area Veterinary Clinic Dog Vaccinations
Does your cat or dog need its routine vaccinations? Did you just adopt a new puppy or kitten that needs vaccines? Regardless of how old your pet is and what type of vaccinations it needs, Arroyo Animal Clinic can administer various types of pet vaccines. Dogs require two basic types of vaccinations:
- Distemper Parvo
Other vaccines can include Bordetella and Lyme vaccines, which can also be given at our Sunnyvale animal hospital. The distemper parvo vaccine is a combination vaccine that includes canine distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, and hepatitis. Puppies require a series of 2-3 distemper parvo vaccines spaced about 2-4 weeks apart starting when they are 6-8 weeks old, then again at one-year-old. It will be administered again after another 2 years, and then every three years after that.
The rabies vaccine is given at 4 months old, one-year-old, and then every three years after its administration at one year. Bordetella shots are ideal for dogs that frequently mingle with other dogs, as it protects them from certain diseases. The Lyme vaccine is beneficial for dogs that hunt, go hiking, camp with their owners, or will have any type of exposure to ticks. If your dog or cat needs vaccines, bring them to Arroyo Animal Clinic!
Cat Vaccinations Offered at Arroyo Animal Clinic
Cats usually require three different types of vaccines, including:
FVRCP is the feline viral rhinotracheitis, calici, and panleukopenia vaccine. Panleukopenia is a feline distemper, which is a type of parvo virus. Kittens need 2-3 FVRCP vaccines, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, then at one year old, again at three years old, and every three years after that. In regards to rabies and FELV vaccines, our staff recommends the Purevax line of shots because they are recombinant vaccines that do not contain an adjuvant. For indoor cats, it is ideal that they receive each of these vaccines every three years in years that vary from other types of vaccines (a cat would then ideally receive one vaccine a year).
