Pet Surgery in Sunnyvale / Santa Clara Area

Santa Clara / Sunnyvale Area Pet Hospital

Whether your pet needs a routine or emergency surgery, we can perform various types of surgeries:

  • Teeth cleaning
  • Spaying
  • Neutering
  • Mass Removals
  • Abdominal Surgeries
  • Orthopedic Surgeries

At Arroyo Animal Clinic, we understand pet owners have questions regarding their pet’s surgery; we can gladly answer all inquiries. We also strive to inform our clients about their pet’s surgical procedure, what to do prior to their pet’s surgery, what needs to be done after the surgery, and if there are any other treatment options. Our staff believes educating clients can help them make an informed decision; we will never perform any treatment or surgery if a pet owner does not agree with it. We are very careful to administer proper pain control during all of our surgeries so your pets will be comfortable and pain-free. Please contact us if you would like to speak to one of our staff members regarding your pet’s possible surgery or our other veterinary services.

Helping Our Clients Making Educated Decisions

Our vets and clinic work together with every pet owner to ensure that each pet receives the best possible treatment. When a pet is brought in for surgery, there are always risks involved, such as:

  • Reaction to Drugs
  • Infections
  • Reaction to Anesthesia
  • Reaction to Suture Material
  • Inhalation Pneumonia
  • Stroke/Emboli
  • In Rare Cases, Death

While these risks are scary, they must be compared to how your pet can benefit from said surgery and how risky it is compared to other things our staff does on a daily basis. Prior to scheduling a surgery, our vets will discuss risks versus benefits, but please remember we can only discuss potential risks; nothing is guaranteed.

Pet Surgery Costs & Instructions

The cost of your pet’s surgery will depend on what type of surgery they need and whether additional tests are needed prior to or after their surgery. Unfortunately, some pet surgeries involve complications, which mean the surgery may cost more than what was originally estimated. While we strive to give clients an accurate estimate prior to surgery, we will not know the final cost until after the procedure is complete.

Our Sunnyvale veterinary clinic will give you instructions prior to and after your pet’s surgery based on what type of surgery was performed. Generally speaking, all pets scheduled for surgery may not eat for at least 12 hours before their surgery and cannot have water about 4-12 hours prior to the surgery.

Your pet may need to have certain tests performed before surgery, including:

  • Blood Work
  • X-Rays
  • Ultrasounds

If your pet requires medication after the surgery, be sure that you know exactly when and how to give your pet said medications. After your pet’s surgery, you will be given instructions regarding their feeding habits, activity, medications, and rechecks/suture removal.
